It's the same old story; Same old song and dance -- Aerosmith, 1974 "Same Old Song and Dance"
Today was the fourth attempt to come off ECMO. Again today his blood pressure was good but we were on high ventilator settings. Since this would still not allow for room to move up should he need it, we have remained on ECMO. I really wish there was more to report...
Andrew was given a half dose of surfactant this evening and his hemofilter has been set to pull some fluid off of him. It looks like we will try again on Monday.

In cases like this, a day without backsliding is a day of progress. The body needs time, and time is the hardest thing for those around the patient to give it. Hang in there, Gene.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lynne. In certain fields, the saying is, as long as everybody is alive at the end of the day -- it is a GREAT day! Andrew just needs time. Not easy on a parent when you want to "fix" immediately because you love deeply.
ReplyDeleteYou remain in our prayers,
Elizabeth and Larry
"Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish." - John Quincy Adams.
ReplyDeleteSome things can't be rushed...even though it would certainly help if they could be. Stay strong and continue to have faith. Everything will work out in time - God's time, not ours.
For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven.

Praying for Andrew's lungs to get stronger. I'm sure it's hard to be patient right now, but hang in there! Sue
ReplyDeleteWaiting is not what parents like to do. We are continuing to pray for Andrew. Maybe Monday will be the day. Stay strong. LuAnne

I have found your site through Carter's. My daugther is a CDH survivor, and the best I can tell you is; take it one day at a time. Difficult at the time but hang on, and keep the faith. Our family is praying for yours.

Always sending our prayers your way.....

ReplyDeleteHeavenly father please cary Andrew and give him the strength he needs to come off ECMO tommorow. Watch over him as they do this. Give his parents Gene and Becky the strength they need to contiune to be there by his side. Keep them healthy. Watch over all of them.
Amen
Even though TIME and ECMO have become "four letter words" in your vocabulary that you REALLY don't like, think about what they have done for Andrew. He has done so well with this huge challenge presented to him.... We are going to be praying SO hard for all of you today... Go Andrew go!
