If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. -- W. C. Fields
Andrew is back on ECMO, but lasted one hour off. His pulmonary pressures increased along with his CO2. They did a cardiac echo which showed good right heart function. Dr. Jaggers said it looks encouraging for another trial off in a couple of days.
For those who were concerned, his fauxhawk was replaced last night. Jen does a great job keeping up his "rock star" status.
Below is a picture to give you a better idea of how many people are here for an ECMO trial.

Sometimes the best things happen when we don't get it right the first time, and have to try again! An hour off ECMO is better than not being able to try at all. Don't give up hope - he's too much of a fighter! Keep the faith and stay strong.

Thank God for the wonderful team of physicians that Andrew has. Dr Camara says "he is in a good place". Love Aunt Sandy
ReplyDeleteAlways remember that everyone is working on Andrew time. He will come off ECMO in his own time. I am keeping you guys in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that he's in a place with such good care! Hope he continues to recover well! Send him my love, hugs, and kisses! Sue
ReplyDeletePraying for steady progress.

Oh how I miss those PICU days! Sometimes progress is slow, but the payoff is worth it! Think how far he has come in a week...who would have believed it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a go Andrew! One hour closer to coming off forever. What a great team. I can just feel the compassion and concern they have for Andrew. Hugs and kisses to you guys.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Paula
Praying for little Andrew that he continues to get better and gets off ECMO as soon as possible. He seems to have wonderful doctors who really know what they are doing and I pray for them that they make all the right decisions regarding Andrew's health. I pray for you both that you are getting to rest when you can and that you have enough energy to see each day through. God bless Sarah.xxx
ReplyDeleteGood Evening:
ReplyDeleteWell one hour off that ECMO is encouraging!
What a team you have in place!!
Andrew just rest up sweet baby so that you can take the next step in a few days.
Love to all of you!
Remember..successful "trial offs" don't always come the first time around! M "trialed off" 3 times...before he told ALL those people gathered around his bed staring at the monitors that he was ready on trial number 4! :) Great idea to get a picture of those people standing there. I think we counted 11 including us at his first trial off! Love and prayers to you and Andrew!

No problemo. It is definitely not unusual for kids to require multiple attempts to get off of ECMO. The good news is that there was good heart funtioning! He just needs a few more days of rest and he'll be ready for the ICN girls.
ReplyDeleteAndrew has made so much progress! He is quite the determined one like his parents! Prayers continue for Andrew's healing, and for your strength and rest.
ReplyDeleteOh, Andrew wears the fauxhawk well! Tell his hairstylist we said so!
Love and Prayers, Alan & Jeri
How encouraging to know that Andrew was able to actually come off ECMO, even if for 1 hour, on the first trial! How amazing it is that all this is happening only 1 week post op tomorrow. Remember Isaiah 40:31 "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
ReplyDeleteAndrew is spending this waiting time getting ready to run!! Love and prayers continue. Mom & Tom. In His time.
Way to go Andrew-your right lung looks terrific, such an improvement in 10 days! Stay strong for take #2 off of ECMO in a couple of days! We are praying for you!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Cathy
Andrew is truly a warrior. He has his own agenda on his own time.
ReplyDeletepraying he continues to get stronger
Keeping you and your family in my prayers :) Amber Lorenzo RN (One of your post partum nurses)
ReplyDeleteI hope that the next time is the charm. That is what we will continue to pray- that the improvement continues and he will go home soon. We are also praying for your continued strength for pulling long days and nights. Love LuAnne
ReplyDeleteHe is a rockstar even if he does temporarily lose a fauxhawk. lol. He is such a strong boy! 1 hour off echmo is better than nothing. Hopefully he will do even better during the next trial. We're praying for you guys.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I still can't get over how cute he is, you guys did a great job. :-)
gird up & get 'em next time, andrew!
