Swing, and a miss...

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. -- W. C. Fields

Andrew is back on ECMO, but lasted one hour off. His pulmonary pressures increased along with his CO2. They did a cardiac echo which showed good right heart function. Dr. Jaggers said it looks encouraging for another trial off in a couple of days.

For those who were concerned, his fauxhawk was replaced last night. Jen does a great job keeping up his "rock star" status.

Below is a picture to give you a better idea of how many people are here for an ECMO trial.

  1. Sometimes the best things happen when we don't get it right the first time, and have to try again! An hour off ECMO is better than not being able to try at all. Don't give up hope - he's too much of a fighter! Keep the faith and stay strong.

  8. Praying for little Andrew that he continues to get better and gets off ECMO as soon as possible. He seems to have wonderful doctors who really know what they are doing and I pray for them that they make all the right decisions regarding Andrew's health. I pray for you both that you are getting to rest when you can and that you have enough energy to see each day through. God bless Sarah.xxx

  10. Remember..successful "trial offs" don't always come the first time around! M "trialed off" 3 times...before he told ALL those people gathered around his bed staring at the monitors that he was ready on trial number 4! :) Great idea to get a picture of those people standing there. I think we counted 11 including us at his first trial off! Love and prayers to you and Andrew!

  11. No problemo. It is definitely not unusual for kids to require multiple attempts to get off of ECMO. The good news is that there was good heart funtioning! He just needs a few more days of rest and he'll be ready for the ICN girls.

  12. Andrew has made so much progress! He is quite the determined one like his parents! Prayers continue for Andrew's healing, and for your strength and rest.

Oh, Andrew wears the fauxhawk well! Tell his hairstylist we said so!

  13. How encouraging to know that Andrew was able to actually come off ECMO, even if for 1 hour, on the first trial! How amazing it is that all this is happening only 1 week post op tomorrow. Remember Isaiah 40:31 "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
Andrew is spending this waiting time getting ready to run!! Love and prayers continue. Mom & Tom. In His time.
